Creatine and Myostatin Myostatin (AKA Growth differentiation factor 8/GDF-8) is a protein that acts on muscle cells’ function to inhibit myogenesis2 (myogenesis is the formation of muscular tissue3). What all this scientific mumbo jumbo means is that myostatin inhibits the ability of your muscle cells to form new tissue and grow. As you can guess this is extremely bad. What has been found in a study is that Creatine is actually a mild myostatin inhibiter4. It stops the production of myostatin and thus allows your muscle cells to grow and produce new muscular tissue.
Creatine and Beta-Alanine As stated on the beta-alanine product information, studies have found that creatine and beta-alanine seem to have a synergistic effect on one-another. Creatine is responsible for donating a phosphate to ADP in order to create ATP. ATP is used when muscles require energy rapidly for contractions. Beta-Alanine increases the concentration of Carnosine present in muscles which act as a buffer for Hydrogen Ions. This means that there is less lactic acid build up in the muscles allowing better muscle endurance. A study on PubMed showed that athletes who supplemented with Creatine and Beta-Alanine had a higher change in lean body mass and fat percentage change compared to athletes who merely used Creatine or who were part of a placebo group5.
Creatine and Cell Volumising  Creatine supports cell volumisation directly and indirectly. Creatine directly increases the volume by pulling additional water into the cell when it’s absorbed. Indirectly it increases the volume of the cell by increasing the supply of the phosphate that allows the production of ATP6. According to research done it was found that a decrease in cell volume lead to cellular catabolism aka protein breakdown, while an increase in cell volume actually led to anabolism aka protein synthesis7.
